Modbox's December Beauty Box Review

It is finally here! If you saw my Instagram, I actually received 3 beauty boxes on one day and that is the best feeling I've ever felt in a while now. Unfortunately only two were mine, while the other one was my friend's, Lina. 

Remember the awesome giveaway I had for ModBox? As a gift of appreciation, Modbox sent me their December box, sweetness. :) So right now i'm going to unbox it with you all and review along the way. :)

This may sound weird, but I can actually feel their appreciation and sincerity while reading this card. Thanks Modbox. :)

So the first few things I see are these two vouchers. 

And what's in the box? There are a total of 6 products in the box. Thanks to their guide card I am able to discover more about the products in the box. The box smells really nice too. :) Let's get in details about each product.

LuView Glossy Kiss (full-sized) - RM36.90.

Contains dual colour lip gloss that is able to give a finish look of sweet pink or rosy pink. This easy to glide lip gloss is able to deliver the perfect shine due to the moisture-boosting Vitamin E. I'm not really into lip gloss, but I might give this a try because the packaging is just too pretty to give it a pass! Also, I prefer pink tones than red. 

Skin 79 Diamond The Prestige BB Cream - RM33.90

Get that great dewy look with a slight of shimmer finish. This triple-function BB cream is able to provide medium to full coverage, complete UV protection, whitening and moisturizing effects. I'm a BB Cream user, so i'm really happy and excited to try this product. 

1) Himalaya Anti-Hair Fall Shampoo - RM24.90 for 400ml (this is only 100ml)

Have a healthier hair with this breakthrough formula, free from parabens, silicone and SLES. This shampoo nourishes roots and strengthens weakened hair to reduce hair fall due to breakage. I've tried this shampoo and I think they are really not bad and they work too! Check out my review here. 

2) Himalaya Honey & Cream Body Wash - RM22.90 for 400ml (this is 30ml)

Want a soft and supple skin? This herbal formulation with the nourishment of cream and honey will help rejuvenate, moisturise and soothe skin. I've never tried Himalaya's products for body wash, but i'm definitely excited to try this one! :) I always preferred natural and herbal ingredients. 

1) Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel for Sensitive Skin (the little jar) - RM195/50ml (this product is 7ml)

Bask in the luxury of a brighter, glowing complexion with this best-selling, patented at-home peel. It exfoliates and refines to even out skin tone, leaving your skin feeling completely soft and silky. Can't wait to try this one! 

2) Juice Beauty Oil Free Moisturizer - RM145/50ml (this product is 50ml)

Clogged pores, be gone! Packed with organic juices and antioxidants, this lightweight moisturiser feeds and draws moisture to your skin, all without the weight of oils. I'm very happy to have received this as it is what is my skin needs! Really excited to try this product as well!

Conclusion

Overall I am very satisfied with Modbox. Can you imagine? All the above for only RM19, even cheaper if you subscribe for 6 months with RM16.50 a month!!! Gosh I've never been happier or more satisfied with a beauty box. 

However, there is a draw back. The drawback is that they only accept credit cards for monthly subscriptions. However if you sign up for their 3, 6 or 9 months subscriptions you may pay via bank transfer, so YAY for me and for the rest of you too. :)

Wonder Box, November Edition

Hello Ladies,

Here is November's Wonder Box! Truth to be told, when I got October's Wonder Box I wasn't really surprised, but thought it was not bad for the price im paying. 

I decided to give November another try to see if anything changes. So here's my November's Wonder Box, let's unbox it together. :)

Like October's box, it comes with Bubble Wrap! This time they used a pink ribbon instead of Black, don't know why though.

Actually pink ribbon doesn't look that bad... looks kinda sweet. LOL enough nonsense talk let's open the box! :)

So what do i think of Wonder Box's November Edition? Well... I would say i prefer the November's box over the October's. Reason because I'm a make-up person. :) Although the SAMPAR products in the box are just samples, but the Eye Shadow cost RM68, and that's a full sized product. 

Would I subscribe to December's Wonder Box?

- Maybe, depending on my mood and also if i've got enough cash. :)

Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer for Combination Skin

When my previous moisturizer did not please my skin, I decided to get another one. Yeap it was that bad till my skin could not take it and bought this Neutrogena before finishing my old one.

Neutrogena has been around for quite some time, I remember when I was 15 my friend was using this brand. As years go by I noticed Neutrogena is coming up with more and more range for different skin types in which is great!

So why did I choose this product out of the rest? Firstly because I wanted a proper moisturizer that can provide moisture to my skin, unlike those gel type of moisturizer. Although I have super oily skin, it is necessary for me to use moisturizer every day and night. 

The reason is because every time after I wash my face, my face would feel dry, and if I do not put any moisturizer my face will naturally produce more oil to make up for the dryness. Okay I should stop blabbing here and get on with the review. :)

The Product

Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturizer for combination skin is proven clinically to normalize combination skin. To cut the sentence short, control oily areas and provide more moisture at dry areas. 

The product is light weight, non-greasy, hence moisturizing the skin without leaving the oily and greasy residue.

Contains MICROSPONGE that would absorb oil - Clinically Proven

Will not clog pores, alcohol free, allergy tested and fragrance free.

My Experience

I used this product for about a month plus now and so far it did not cause any irritation or breakouts for my skin. (I have oily skin with huge pores)

What I want from a moisturizer is to moisturize my skin but at the same time does not leave any sticky or greasy feeling. Some people may prefer gel based kind of moisturizer, but for me the previous gel based product that I used ended making my skin dry and unhealthy looking. 

This product was able to leave my skin feeling fresh and moisturized without any greasy residue.

My skin feels satisfied when it is properly pampered and moisturized, especially after using a Facial Scrub. It is necessary to use a moisturizer especially after using a facial scrub because scrubs are extra drying compared to our daily facial cleanser. 

However, I was not used to the scent of this product. It stated no fragrance, before this I used to use products that contain fragrance, so a change from that took a while for me to get used to.

Sometimes this product makes my face feel a little sticky, so on days when I feel my skin does not need as much as moisture I would pump a small pump, spread the moisturizer on my fingers and tap the moisturizer on my skin instead of the usual application. 

Pros

• Makes my skin feel pampered and moisturized
• Affordable, only RM15+ for a 118ml bottle. 
• No irritation to my skin

Cons

• Not used to the scent at first, but won't be an issue after a while
• Sometimes leave skin feel a little sticky

Conclusion

Rate: 3.8/5

Repurchase: Maybe (It is good but not the best, planning to try out other moisturizers in the market)

St. Ives Apricot Scrub (Blemish & Blackhead Control) Review

I've tried a few facial scrubs before and so far I find this most effective as compared to the other scrubs I've tried. The product that i'm reviewing is the Naturally Clear Apricot Scrub for Blemish and Blackhead Control. It is stated to be "America's #1 Scrub that gently cleans  pores and helps stop breakouts before they occur".

This product contains 2% of Salicylic Acid that is known to cleanse by penetrating into pores instead of just cleansing the outer surface. The purpose has been stated "Acne Treatment" but it works Blackheads too. 

The texture of this product is like what the picture shows, cream based with mini beads that are from natural extracts. 

My Experience

My Skin Type: Combination to Oily with Large Pores and many Black and Whiteheads. 

I use this product alternate days, which means around 3 to 4 times a week like what the back states. 

What I feel from using this product is that it helps scrub off dead skin cells and the top layer of the black or whiteheads. I tried to rely on this product instead of squeezing my blackheads but truth to be told it can't be relied on that way. 

However it does help a lot when I use this product before squeezing out the dirt. The reason is because it scrubs off the dead skin cells that are blocking the blackheads from coming out, so when the dead skin cells have been removed I find it easier for the dirt to come out. I can't afford facial so I guess for now this is the best I can get. 

Although it does not remove my blackheads like magic :p, but it does leave my skin feeling smooth like there's no black or whiteheads. The only problem is I can still see my black and whiteheads. 

How I use this product?

First I would cleanse my face with my daily facial wash and then use this product. The product contains quite a lot of beads so be careful do not put too much pressure when scrubbing. 

Scrub in circular motions gentle. You may scrub a little longer for better scrub BUT do not scrub for too long because it will leave your skin dry. 

*There are a few types of Apricot Scrubs by St. Ives be sure to get the one for Blackheads. I've once tried the one for Sensitive Skin, a Gentle Scrub, it was not as effective as this one. 

Pros:

• Exfoliates well, could feel the difference before and after
• Skin feels smoother after scrub
• Blackheads is slightly more controlled as compared to not using this product
• Gentle scent
• Many scrub beads
• Affordable

Cons

• It does not literally clear off the blackheads

L'oreal Hydrafresh Anti-Shine Icy Gel Review

When my old moisturizer ran out (The L'oreal Derma Genesis Pore Minimizing Smoother), I went to the pharmacy to buy another one. Unfortunately it ran out, I didn't see it at all, it's either it's discontinued or they didn't carry the stock, or it just ran out. So I had to find a replacement and I decided to try from the same brand, L'oreal and I discovered the Hydrafresh Anti-Shine!


I was attracted to this because of the description. 
"Pollution, humidity and stressful lifestyle can provoke excessive sebum production. Hot and damped climate can also cause perspiration: skin loses water, becomes dehydrated, yet appears shiny."


I was thinking, hey! it described my problem! With our hot and humid weather in Malaysia, in addition to my super oily skin I thought this was great, and I also thought this product was made for this purpose!




The other side of the box showed this. The words that persuaded me to buy this product were: "prevents skin from greasing and pores are clear and tightened".


Here is how the packaging looks:


I like the extra support from the box... no particular reason. :p



Be sure to read the information clearly from the box before dispose because this is all it says on the product.


I also like the plastic cap that prevents the product from splattering all over the cover. Even if it's on the plastic thing, you can still use them and it's neater.


My Experience
To be honest I am not very happy about this product. It is cooling after apply, my face does feel smooth and non greasy. I did not feel the difference of my face being less shiny, probably less shiny right after apply, but after a few hours my face becomes oily like usual. Another strange thing i noticed is that, after i cleanse my face, apply toner and everything, my face looks really clean. But, once i applied this product I have no idea why my pores look clogged. I wish someone could explain to me as well.

Conclusion
Pros
- Gives smooth feel after apply
- Cooling feeling

Cons
- Does not prevent face from being oily
- It seems like it clogs more pores
- Does not do exactly what it says ("prevents skin from greasing and pores are clear and tightened")

However, though this product does not exactly compliment my skin, but it might work well for you so no

CLINIQUE Moisture Surge (All Skin Types)

I got a sample from CLINIQUE for a few of their products, and they are all suitable for All Skin Types. This is the CLINIQUE Moisture Surge, extended thirst relief for All Skin Types.

First time
The first time I used this, I thought it was AMAZING. I have oily to combination skin, so I would prefer moisturizers that will not make my skin sticky or oily. Amazingly this product did not, and on the plus point my skin felt really smooth, it basically felt like magic.

After few days
However, after using for a few days, I noticed a bit of dryness on the cheeks near my nose which I thought it was strange. I stopped using this and used my old moisturizer again. Recently my moisturizer finished, so I thought of giving this product another try, but for my skin, it didn't feel like it was moisturizing enough.

Based on my experience, I don't think this is suitable, or maybe strong enough for people with dry skin.

The texture and after feel of this product is again I say, AMAZING. The only disadvantage is that it is probably not moisturizing enough for me, which I thought it's strange since I have oily to combination skin.

I believe this product costs above average, though I like CLINIQUE products, unfortunately this product was not suitable for my skin. Therefore I don't think it'll be worth the cost as I recently found a different moisturizer that is cheaper, and feels like magic as well. 

Weight loss with Lemon Water, a Myth?

Drinking lemon water for losing weight isn't very popular, in fact some people believe that lemon water consumption will cause Gastritis because it is acidic. But did you know that although water and lemons by nature are acidic, but when you combine and consume them they are actually very alkalizing to our body? Plus, the more alkaline our body are, the healthier we feel and look! So lemon water helps in weight loss, is it a myth or fact?

How and When to consume lemon water?

Based on the book "The Fat-Fighter Diet" by Bruce Krahn, it is recommended to consume lemon water in the morning, or the moment you wake up, in an empty stomach. Drinking warm or slightly hot lemon water is an additional benefit for weight loss. Other than morning, lemon water can be consumed any time of the day. For instance, instead of drinking sweet drinks, drink lemon water. Or if you do not feel like drinking water because of the dull taste, add some lemon juice. 

However, please do not starve yourself and drink lemon water only for weight loss purpose. Remember that eating smaller meals regularly helps in fat burn as our metabolism is running. Keep in mind that starving will slow your metabolic rate hence causes your body to store fats. 

Do know that Lemon water/juice has the properties that helps with weight loss, however it is not the main cause of weight loss on its own. A proper and healthy way for weight loss is to eat healthily, accompanied by regular physical activities and enough sleep.

Egg Whites good for Skin

A young man sprinkling his lawn and bushes with pesticides wanted to check the contents of the barrel to see how much pesticide remained in it. He raised the cover and lit his lighter; the vapors ignited and engulfed him. He jumped from his truck, screaming.His neighbour came out of her house with a dozen eggs and a bowl yelling:  "bring me some more eggs!" She broke them, separating the whites from the yolks. The neighbour woman helped her to apply the whites onto the young man's face.  When the ambulance arrived and the EMTs saw the young man, they asked who had done this. Everyone pointed to the lady in charge. They congratulated her and said: "You have saved his face." By the end of the summer, the young man brought the lady a bouquet of roses to thank her. His face was like a baby's skin.


A  Healing Miracle for Burns: 
Keep in mind this treatment of burns is being included in teaching beginner fireman. First Aid consists of first spraying cold water on  the affected area until the heat is reduced which stops the  continued burning of all layers of the skin. Then, spread the egg whites onto the affected area. 


One woman burned a large part of her hand with boiling water. In spite  of the pain, she ran cold faucet water on her hand, separated 2 egg  whites from the yolks, beat them slightly and dipped her hand in the  solution. The whites then dried and formed a protective layer.


She later learned that the egg white is a natural collagen and continued during at least one hour to apply layer upon layer of beaten egg white. By afternoon she no longer felt any pain and the next day  there was hardly a trace of the burn. 10 days later, no trace was  left at all and her skin had regained its normal color. The burned area was totally regenerated thanks to the collagen in the egg whites, a placenta full of vitamins.

Biore Facial Foam - Pore and Oil Clear Review

I got a free sample of Biore's facial foam (newest packaging) -

In the content it says: "Unclogs pores & removes oil. It contains Crushable Beads that unclogs and deeply cleanses pores to remove accumulated impurities and excess oil. It is formulated with Witch Hazel that helps tighten pores, making them less visible to reveal smoother, brighter & oil-free skin. For oily skin."

My Experience:
Before Washing:
I have combination skin, and a lot of white and black heads. So at the end of the day i could actually feel the white heads in my pores as i touch my face, (nose especially). I would get the temptation to squeeze them out! But DO NOT DO THAT, because it will only make your pores BIGGER. So if you have been squeezing, i recommend that you stop.

During Washing:
Wet your face, squeeze a small amount of the Biore Facial Foam on your fingers, and rub in circular motion to create the foam.
During the washing, i could feel the 'Crushable Beads', however the feeling is very mild. I believe the reason is because the beads are really tiny. Which I think it is good enough, because if the beads are bigger or more rough, it is more like a facial scrub instead?

After Wash (The Results):
It does feel smoother like the packaging says, and it did remove the oiliness from my face. My pores feel tighter after wash as well. Though my face feels clean, I can still see some blackheads, which is obvious since I did not extract them (I don't really want to do that cause I know it'll make my pores bigger). This is only my second try, but I'll give this product a few days to weeks and see how well it cleanses my blackheads + once a week of exfoliation with my St. Ives Apricot Scrub and see how it goes.

Overall:
1. It is a pretty decent facial wash. Skin feels clean and smooth, also a little tighter.
2. It is Japan made, and Japan is known for their natural ingredients.
3. It is very affordable. (Around RM6 to 7)
4. It smells nice.

I actually had high hopes for this product seeing that it's from Japan, and Japan is known for 
their natural ingredients. The first time I used it there were no immediate results, so I decided to give it a few more try. I tried this product for about a month and gave it many chances thinking it'll be better later on but it didn't! 


My pores grew larger as well, and I didn't understand why. But anyhow I have stopped using this facial wash and using a different one which is helping my face condition now.
